As Florida moves into the summer months, rain has become more and more frequent.  According to the St. Petersburg Times, heavy rains produced nearly 5 inches of rainfall in parts of the Tampa Bay area Sunday morning.  That amount is enough to match or even exceed the amount of rain normally expected over the entire month, said Bay News 9 meteorologist Josh Linker.  June rainfalls average around 5 to 7 inches, he said.  On Sunday, Tampa International Airport and St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport both recorded more than 2 inches of rain.

Sunday's showers added to the rain that the region has absorbed since Friday.  The wet weekend didn't evenly cover the area with rain and instead occurred in spots of small storms across west-central Florida.  The most drenched areas over the three days were southern Pinellas County and northeast Hillsborough County.  Each collected between 4 to 7 inches over the weekend.  Forecasts for the week ahead call for high temperatures hovering in the low 90s and low temperatures in the high 70s, while thunderstorms begin their seasonal afternoon pattern, according to Bay News 9's Linker.
