Hurricane season is underway in the Sunshine state, with August being when the disasters typically become more active, running through November 30th. According to the St. Petersburg Times, Tropical Storm Emily has continued to move through the Caribbean early this morning. It has been a struggle for hurricane forecasters to get an accurate read on how much it will intensify and what path it will take.

The National Hurricane Center five-day forecast shows Emily passing to the east of Florida as a tropical storm this weekend. As of now, it is predicted the storm will not make landfall or reach hurricane strength. Emily was about 250 miles southeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and moving west at about 16 mph, according to an update from the NHC.

This is the fifth storm named of the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season. However, unlike some of the previous episodes, Emily’s path is uncertain, reported Bay News 9 Meteorologist Juli Marquez. The National Hurricane Center is having difficulty finding the storm's center and that affects future models, she explains. A lot depends on what happens in the next two days, and right now, it's "wait and see," Marquez said.
