Tampa Residents Urged to Alert Authorities about Storm Water Concerns
7/25/2012 12:45:00 AM
Rising floodwaters are of concern to most residents. There are times the level of the water can recede quite quickly after the flood peak, but there can be factors that prevent the water from naturally draining away. Having water drain away naturally after a flood can be crucial to minimizing damage to your home. While you may have adequate flood insurance coverage, Tampa residents are urged to notify the storm water division of the Public Works Department if they are aware of factors that may prevent natural water drainage.
Residents are advised not to store yard waste or debris near drainage outlets. This debris can quickly clog up drainage systems in the event of a flood. Any illegal dumping near these outlets should be reported so it can be cleaned away. During normal rains, if you notice drainage being especially slow, report the incident for investigation. Any leaks underground that become obvious on the surface should also be reported.
Keeping the storm water systems clean and effective benefits everyone. Another benefit that can be understated is the need for homeowners to be responsible for their own flood insurance. If you don’t have home or flood insurance in place, call us today.
